How to identify
- Light in the hand, silvery-grey, non-magnetic, does not rust — it forms a dull white oxide.
- Extrusion is clean architectural profile; cast is thick, rough and often from engine parts.
- A file cut shows bright silver right through, unlike galvanised steel.
Common uses
- Window and door frames
- Vehicle body panels and wheels
- Beverage cans
- Heat sinks and radiators
Recycling information
- Recycling aluminium uses about 5% of the energy of primary smelting.
- Keep extrusion, cast, sheet and UBC cans in separate bins — grades price very differently.
- Remove steel screws, plastic thermal breaks and rubber seals before weighing in.
